Curator Sarah Howgate introduces the major new exhibition which explores Hockney as a draughtsman from the 1950s to the present and his depictions of himself and those close to him.

Sarah Howgate, curator of David Hockney: Drawing from Life, is Senior Curator of Contemporary Collections at the National Portrait Gallery. She has curated several major exhibitions at the Gallery including David Hockney: Portraits (2006), Lucian Freud: Portraits (2012), Gillian Wearing and Claude Cahun: Behind the Mask, Another Mask (2017) and Tacita Dean PORTRAIT (2018). She co-wrote The Portrait Now in 2006 with Sandy Nairne and contributed to 21st Century Portraits, published in 2013.
