Apples and Snakes and National Portrait Gallery | Picture the Poet Live feat: Ian McMillan

This special event, held on 4 March 2016, marked the closing of the Picture the Poet exhibition at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle. It brought together poets Ian McMillan, Kim Moore and Jenny Lindsay plus performances by local young people who had written work inspired by the exhibition.

 

Picture the Poet – Schools Programme

The National Literacy Trust developed and delivered a participatory schools programme which worked with teachers to support the teaching of creative writing and writing poetry at Key Stages 2 and 3.

 

Apples and Snakes | Picture the Poet Live feat: Lemn Sissay, Kate Fox & The Lake Poets

To celebrate the National Portrait Gallery's Picture the Poet exhibition at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, this special event held on 24 November 2015, brought together acclaimed performance poets: Lemn Sissay and Kate Fox and local musicians The Lake Poets. Plus performances by local young people who had written work inspired by the exhibition under the guidance of Rowan McCabe, Sky Hawkins and Asa J. Maddison.

 

Picture the Poet: Lincoln Art Summer School 2015

The Collection, Lincoln ran a week long summer school for 16–17 year olds inspired by the work in Picture the Poet. See how the young people got on with exploring different approaches to making photographic portraits.

Apples and Snakes | Picture the Poet Live feat: John Hegley

To celebrate the National Portrait Gallery's Picture the Poet exhibition at the Usher Gallery in Lincoln, this special event held on the 24th July brought together acclaimed performance poets: John Hegley, Michelle 'Mother' Hubbard and Joel Stickley. Plus performances by local young people who had written work inspired by the exhibition under the guidance of Leicester-based poet Jess Green.

Picture the Poet | Young People's Creative Writing Project | Norwich

As part of Picture the Poet's learning and engagement activity, young people from Hewett School in Norwich participated in a five-week creative writing after-school club led by poet Ross Sutherland and produced by Apples and Snakes and Writers Centre Norwich.

 

Picture the Poet | Student Photography Project | Norwich

Filmed 12 May 2104, Norwich. A collaboration project between Writers' Centre Norwich and City College Norwich. Second year students studying Extended Diploma Level 3 Photography were paired with ten locally-based poets to create new photographic portraits inspired by Picture the Poet.
