Robert Stephenson
(1803-1859), Civil engineer; son of George StephensonSitter in 12 portraits
Civil engineer and son of George Stephenson; together they built the famous engine Rocket. Stephenson built the first railway to reach London, the line from Birmingham,1833-8 and designed and built many notable bridges and railways in Britain and abroad. He received numerous honours and foreign decorations.
