Sir Derek Greenaway was Chairman of Daniel Greenaway & Sons, the City printers. They were based in Commercial St, opposite Spitalfields Market, certainly at least until 1981

When I worked for Daniel Greenaway & Sons, in 1961 they were in Old Broad Street, near Liverpool St station. They also had a works in De Beauvior Crescent up the Kingsland Road . There was another print works in Stroud under the name of Frederick Steel & Co. Greenaways were city printers, mainly printing report and accounts. Sir Derek and his brother Mr Alan ran the business. Sir Derek was very tall and always smoked cigars. If you were lucky Sir Derek tapped some of his cigar ash into your company ashtray on your desk, when he popped in. You always harboured this ash carefully as it indicated that Sir Derek had been in your office.
