My family moved to Instow Barton in 1949. The farmhouse was next door to the parish church. I have very fond memories of Bishop Bill. He was a very kind and a gracious man of God. Bishop Bill baptized me in 1949 and later my two brothers in 1951 and 1955.

Born 21 Feb 1884. Attended King Edwards School Birmingham then 1902 Trinity College Cambridge. Ordained to Holy Orders. Curate at St Leonards Bilston, then vicar of a parish in Plymouth. 1911 married Margaret Stone (daughter of the vicar of St Leonards). 1912 moved to India. Various appointments becoming Bishop of Lucknow in 1936. Retired from India to become Rector at Instow N Devon in 1948. Margaret died in 1955 as a result of cancer developing after a pedestrian road accident. Bishop Bill died on 6th June 1964 at Instow.
