He taught geography at Hardye’s Grammar School, Dorchester in 1960s and 70s. www.dnw.co.uk provides info about his military service and says he was born in 1913; this was in connection with the auctioning of his medals by that firm.

I would add that he was missing a forefinger; I do not know why but it was always assumed by the boys to be a war wound.
