The pianist Harold Samuel is seen here accompanying violinist Isolde Menges who had performed in London since 1913 and whose technique and beauty of tone in both the classical and romantic repertoire were much admired. The lithograph was bequeathed to the Gallery by Dr Howard Ferguson, a composer and musicologist.
